Continental Drift - 220 Million Years Ago |
---|
By 220 million years, the beginning of the Triassic era, ago the supercontinent of Pangea had started to break apart. As a rift opened between what is now northern Africa and western Eurasia the Tethys Sea moved in to fill the gap.
The land was now dominated by the dinosaurs and the first mammals had already appeared. Plant life on the land consisted of ferns and palm-like cycads. By the middle of the Triassic period primitive conifers had begun to develop.
