We were up around 7 and had breakfast at the Kaibab Lodge before heading back into the park. We spent a little time at the lodge area and picked up a few items at the gift shop there before heading over to the Widforss Trail to start out hike. It wasn't going to be a difficult hike out to Widforss Point at all and the actually hiking time shouldn't have been more than 2 or 2½ hours. We started around 11 and stopped for a long lunch break around 12:30 or so. I also had a couple of longish stops trying to chase down a couple of Kaibab squirrels that were apparently not very interested in having their pictures taken. I have never had much luck with these little varmints.
We finally got out to Widross Point around 3. We set camp and then I wandered off for an hour or so trying to make my way over to one of the other points out there, while Robin stayed behind. I was not successful in the least. I lost my GPS somehow at one point and tried to backtrack to find it but I was unsuccessful. Somehow I ended up not going back the right way and getting completely disoriented. It's amazing how the forest can all start to look the same in very little time. Somehow I did manage to get back to a place I recognized and then started following some markers I had left along the way, to help me find my way back... which obviously did not work. After a few minutes I stumbled across the fallen GPS unit which apparently fell out of my camera case when I bent over to move a branch. By the time I found the GPS I was running out of time as I told Robin I would not be gone more than an hour and I knew she would worry. So I headed back to camp.
After eating dinner we went out to the southern end of Widforss Point to watch the sun go down. There really is not a good view from anywhere on Widforss Point though so I worked myself further south and down to an area that was free from trees and brush.
We had a nice night out there with a little wind but not nearly so bad as the night on the Ken Patrick or anything like that night in the national forest. It was cold but not uncomfortably so, a little warmer than the other nights I think.
